Road safety in secondary schools

The road safety team offer school programmes to every school on Wirral. Most sessions fit into a one hour lesson and are delivered in school by the Road Safety Team.

Year 7 session 'Walk Wise'

Our Year 7 class sessions focus on a road traffic collision and builds up a picture of what happened through witness statements, police reports and medical summaries. It is the children’s role to decide who was to blame and how the accident might have been prevented. Year 7 pupils are a key group following their transition from primary to secondary school and their increased risk in this age group of being involved in a road traffic collision.

Year 10 - 'Belt Up'

The Year 10 session covers two key areas - pedestrian safety and in-car safety. Our interactive quiz is used to help collate information from the sessions and positively engage the young people.

Year 12 – ‘4 Wheel Ed’

We also run an event for students in sixth forms. This event is run in partnership with Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and youth workers from the Children and Young Peoples Department and aims to advise 16 and 17 year olds of the risks posed to them as new drivers and as passengers in their friend’s vehicles. 4 Wheel Ed includes an interactive quiz to test student’s knowledge of road safety matters.
