School crossing patrols

School crossing patrolThe School Crossing Patrol Service is currently responsible for 105 School Crossing sites in Wirral. Wirral's School Crossing Patrols are responsible for safely crossing thousands of adults and children every year. Requests for new sites are received from Schools, Parents and Road Safety Organisations. When a request is submitted we carry out two assessments one during the Spring/Summer term and one during the Autumn term, this involves:

  • Pedestrian Counts (accompanied and unaccompanied children)
  • Vehicle Counts
  • Evaluations of the area (sight lines, pavement and road widths etc)

The above information is then considered to determine if a school crossing patrol is granted or refused.
