Merseytravel co-ordinates public transport and acts in partnership with private bus and rail operators to provide services on Wirral. Merseytravel is also responsible for the operation of Ferry services, the Mersey Tunnels, bus stations and shelters.

Public transport plays an important role in achieving the objectives set out in the Local Transport Plan.
