Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy is the service which assesses disabled people's needs for equipment or adaptations to their homes to help them manage everyday activities.
This could involve major building work or just the provision of equipment.
This service operates from the Department of Adult Social Services, and requests for assessment should be directed to the Central Advice and Duty Team.
People who need equipment will have it provided to them from the Community Equipment Service.
This equipment service is provided jointly with the NHS in Wirral.
There is no charge for equipment, however, it is provided on loan and must be returned if it is no longer needed, if the disabled person moves out of Wirral or moves into a care home.
People who need minor adaptations to their home, i.e. costing less than £1,200, will have these provided by the Department of Adult Social Services.
However, this will be referred to the Wirral Home Improvement Agency who will arrange for appropriate contractors to carry out the work. Wirral Home Improvement Agency will deal with any queries about the arrangements for the work.
For further information and advice please contact the Central Advice and Duty Team using the details on the right.
