Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology, which is also known as telecare, is a service that uses simple technology to help people live safely and independently in their own home. To see how Assistive Technology can be used within your home, visit our Interactive Smart House.

The equipment can help keep people safer by reducing the risk of falls, accidents and hospital admissions. It also provides more peace of mind for loved ones and carers.

Advisers from accredited provider Seniorlink Eldercare can help potential users to choose the sensors and detectors to assist them to stay safe in their own home. The Assistive Technology leaflet provides a short summary of the technology and how it can help.

  • How Does It Work?

Sensors and detectors are connected by a telephone line to a dedicated control centre, which is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means that help is always at hand.

If an incident occurs or if there is a request for help, the sensor is activated, which alerts the control centre or the carer or family member.

Trained operators respond to the call within seconds to offer support and advice. If necessary, they will contact family, friends or a carer, or send a mobile responder from the team to visit the user's home.
