Allotments as a Community Resource

Image

Allotment gardeneing is a great leveller! It can bring prople together from all age groups and social backgrounds around a common interest. It can help to foster mentoring relationships where more experienced gardeners can pass on their knowledge to younger or less experienced ones. Allotmenteering lends itself to co-operation and contact.

It is an ideal place to teach your children about nature and how we can best sustain and safeguard the environment.

With changing lifestyles there is an opportunity for quality family time and the cementing of relationships through working together.

Some sites have their own society which can be members of the Wirral Federation of Allotment Societies. The Federation is affiliated to the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners.

Wirral have won the Bledisloe Cup every year since 2002 for its allotment service, which is awarded by the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners.

Why not visit a local site and talk to the folk there? Some sites may have vacancies.
