Computers in libraries

Hand using a mouse

All of our libraries are equipped with computer suites, which include printers, scanners and access to the internet.

The number of ‘stations’ in each library ranges from five in smaller branches to suites of 10 or more in some of the larger ones.

A wide range of software, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel etc) and Publisher is also available.

Library staff are happy to provide basic advice on internet and software use. Users needing more support are encouraged to improve their ICT skills through the wide range of courses that are available.

Access and charges
Access to computers is provided during library opening times and is subject to availability.

Due to occasional high levels of demand, users are advised to telephone or call into their local branch to book a time.

Periods of use start at a minimum of half an hour and longer periods can be booked depending on availability.

Computers can be used by all library members and there is no charge to use them, or to browse the internet, for the first half-hour, although there is a charge of 75p per half hour thereafter.

For advice and guidance on using the internet please see our Code of Practice.

Before children are allowed to use the internet, permission will be needed from a parent or guardian. Filtering software will be in operation on those computers being used by children.
