Health and wellbeing of employees
The Council is currently developing a Health and Wellbeing strategy to improve the health and well being of employees, their household members and the wider community.
The Mindful Employer strategy is part of our overall approach to employee well being and managing attendance at work.
Mental health including stress and depression affects some employees in work and impacts on their families. In turn, mental health issues affecting the family and friends of our employees can impact on our workforce.
Wirral Council has signed up to the Mindful Employer Charter in partnership with other employers within the Cheshire and Wirral NHS Partnership boundary.
The Charter has four key principles:
- to raise awareness of mental health issues
- to promote good practice amongst it’s workforce
- Supportive policies, structures and culture
- making the workplace safe for all its workforce in terms of mental health
As a Mindful Employer it is necessary to change attitudes and workplace cultures and this does take time, however the key principles are ones which we can work towards and implement.
We are working on this strategy with our partners Wirral NHS and Wirral Partnership Homes to share best practice and work together to promote Mindful Employer across our workforces.
