Equality and diversity

The council is committed to equality of opportunity for everyone.

This includes how potential employees are encouraged to seek and gain employment with the council and the way that existing employees are treated.

No applicant or employee will receive less favourable treatment than others because of their skin colour, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, gender or gender-identity, marital status, sexual orientation, trade union activity or responsibility for dependants.

The council is committed to delivering an inclusive recruitment and selection process aimed at creating a strong and diverse workforce.

Staff Forums are in place to support the needs of a diverse range of employees and to advise the council on issues affecting its diverse workforce.

What do we mean by ‘equality’?

The Council will ensure that all service and employment practices are lawful within the equalities legislation framework, and will promote equality of opportunity.

What do we mean by ‘diversity’?

The Council recognises the variety of people and communities across Wirral with a wealth of cultures, lifestyles, experiences, beliefs and perspectives.  This will be recognised in the Council’s role as an employer, service provider, commissioner, partner agency and within its community leadership role.

The Equality and diversity section of this website provides more information about the Council’s equality and diversity policies.
