Access to Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

Employees have the opportunity to join the LGPS, which is a tax approved, defined benefit, occupational pension scheme. The benefits under the Scheme are based on the length of your membership and your final salary. It is very secure because the benefits are set out in law.

Flexible working

The Council is committed to providing a range of policies and working patterns to assist employees in combining their work and other commitments as effectively as possible. This includes flexi-time, job share and part time working, term-time working, agile working (including homeworking) and career breaks.

Childcare vouchers

Childcare can be an expensive business. This facility allows employees to exchange part of their wages for childcare vouchers, which allows significant savings on tax and national insurance.

Training and development

We are committed to developing our employees and offer a wide range of specific training programmes. As well as Management Training, Apprenticeships schemes and role specific training, the Council will also consider providing assistance to employees to undertake a range of external qualifications from basic skills, NVQs, professional qualifications to academic degrees.

Employee Assistance Programme

This a free and confidential service for employees and their families, provided in partnership with PPC Worldwide and Aviva, which offers 24hrs a day/7 days a week expert advice and counselling service in such areas as financial services, family and personal problems, work issues, health related problems, childcare and other family issues and consumer rights.

Occupational Health Support

If an employee suffers from ill-health we can refer them to our Occupational Health Service who can offer advice and guidance as well as access to a range of services to assist an employee to return to good health as soon as possible.

Health and wellbeing

The Council promotes a range of healthy living and well-being initiatives for employees. Our programmes aim to improve the health, fitness and well being of employees through involvement in a range of events, information and education, etc.

Corporate Invigor8

This is a special offer for use of the Council's leisure centres for employees at a discounted rate. This gives access to six swimming pools and seven fitness suites across the borough and for other discounted activities at Leisure Centres.

Car loan scheme

Loans to assist with the purchase of a car may be available to employees who are essential car users or authorised casual car users.

Motorcycle loan scheme

Employees have the opportunity to take out an interest free loan to purchase a motorcycle.

Removal expenses

In certain circumstances, new employees are given assistance with their removal and relocation expenses if they have to move home to take up a job with Wirral Council.

Staff discounts

Wirral Council Employees enjoy a range of promotional discounts and offers for high street stores and other services.
