Dealing with Redundancy
Whatever your personal circumstances, unemployment can be an anxious, uncertain time, particularly for those who have always been in a job. Apart from considerations of how to make ends meet, you will face a range of issues including working out what benefits, if any, you are entitled to, how to start your job search, and whether you should pursue your former career or retrain for something new.
Job Centre Plus can offer help and advice about benefits, including Job Seekers Allowance, and job search. To claim benefits you must first register with them by phoning 0800 0 55 66 88 and booking an appointment with an advisor.
You will be asked about your employment history and the types of work you're seeking. If appropriate, you can also pick up claim forms for income support or housing benefit.
