Housing Options Bond Scheme

What is the Bond Scheme?

The bond scheme may be one way of meeting your housing needs. We will work with you, local landlords and agents, to find suitable properties for you to rent in the private sector.

Instead of paying a cash deposit we can provide a bond which underwrites the deposit - similar to insurance, up to the value of one month’s Local Housing Allowance.

The bond period is for six months and you must save so you can pay the deposit to the landlord when the bond expires.

Where applicable you must agree to receive tenancy support - a support package which will help you through the initial months of a new tenancy.

Am I eligible?

You can apply for the bond if you:

  • are aged 18 to 55

and you:

  • have lived or worked in Wirral for the last six months or be ready to move on from Supported Housing in Wirral and
  • are living in housing need or at risk of being homeless and
  • cannot afford to pay a private sector deposit yourself and
  • the Bond Scheme is an affordable housing option for you.

The bond scheme may be for you if any of the following apply to you:

  • your family or friends are asking you to leave
  • your current private sector tenancy is coming to an end
  • you have been living in supported accommodation and are now ready for more independence
  • there is limited social housing in the area you want to live
  • you have Urgent Need Status with Wirralhomes.
