Homeless strategy
Homelessness is very complex and not simply a housing issue. It is our aim to ensure organisations in Wirral work together to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness, prevent homelessness and provide excellent services to support people to access warm, appropriate and affordable homes.
As such Wirral’s Homeless Strategy (2008-2010) was developed in close partnership with key agencies in Wirral following a review of homeless services in 2007. Following an extensive period of consultation the review highlighted how Wirral Council and its partners tackled homelessness and where further work was required.
The Homeless Strategy sets out key challenges, objectives and priorities for preventing and reducing homelessness in Wirral and supports the overarching Wirral Housing Strategy (2011-2026). The existing Homeless Strategy and action plan was initially developed to cover the period 2008–10. The strategic priorities and actions objectives contained in it will remain the focus of the work of the Council and its partners until the new Homeless Strategy is developed during 2011-12.
The new Homeless Strategy will be informed and shaped by a further comprehensive Review of Homelessness and Homeless services. This will start during the latter part of 2011 and will involve the Council, key agencies who provide homeless services in Wirral and service users to make sure the strategy reflects local needs.
If you are having housing difficulties, are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless then you should seek help and advice as soon as possible. The Housing Options Team may be able to help you find a solution and may prevent you from becoming homeless.
