Brown bin - Garden waste collection
Wirral Council provides a free garden waste collection to most residents.
Each building in a participating area is permitted one brown bin.
Please use the search facility on the bin collections page to find details of your next collection.
Please check the table below for what we can and cannot collect in your brown bin:

You can also compost a lot of garden and kitchen waste in your own garden. See the composting pages for more information.
If you have too much garden waste for your brown bin you can still take this additional waste to one of the household waste disposal sites in Wirral operated by Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority.
Missing bins
If your bin goes missing on the day of collection, please contact Streetscene by phone (0151 606 2004), email (streetscene@wirral.gov.uk) or online, by 5pm the next working day after collection or you could be charged for a new bin (see bin charging for further details). Report a missing bin.
Why can’t I put vegetable and fruit peelings in to my brown bin?
Vegetable and fruit peelings cannot be collected in your brown garden recycling bin due to very strict legislation imposed by The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) (Animal Bi-Product Regulations).
It is their opinion that any food waste that has been in the house has too high a risk of becoming contaminated with dairy or meat products.
The State Veterinary Service, who regulate all compost material to be used in agriculture or horticulture, carry out random inspections on all windrow composting facilities (like the one your garden recycling goes to), to ensure no food waste has been sent there.
As windrowing (composting) does not involve biological heat processing to kill salmonella and other "nasties", it is unsuitable for any type of food waste.
