Contaminated land

The Council's priorities in dealing with contaminated land are:

• The protection of human health
• The protection of controlled waters
• The protection of designated areas of special ecosystems and nature conservation generally
• The prevention of damage to property and the historic environment
• The encouragement to undertake voluntary remediation
• The encouragement to reuse previously used and derelict land

Contaminated Land

Much of Wirral's contaminated land is a legacy of its industrial past.

Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 requires Councils to inspect the land in their area for contamination. Wirral Council has therfore developed a strategy, which sets out how the inspection process will be carried out. The Council’s Public Register of Contaminated Land is available for inspection at Wallasey Town Hall.
