Construction site noise
The British Standard BS5228 lays down guidelines for the control of noise from construction and demolition sites and as such this Authority operates a policy that restricts noisy work (in most circumstances) to the following hours:
- Monday to Friday – 8.00am to 6.00pm
- Saturday – 8.00am to 1.00pm
- Sunday – No noisy work
- Public / Bank Holidays – No noisy work
Noisy work is defined as work using power tools or repeated hammering. Examples of work allowable outside the above times would be painting and decorating, plastering and brick laying (not using powered plaster/cement mixers).
Noisy work outside of the restricted hours may be allowable where there are extenuating circumstances e.g. where early road closures are required.
