Local Development Framework
The Local Development Framework (LDF) is a collection of Local Development Documents that together set out the vision and spatial strategy for future development in the Borough. They will gradually replace the Unitary Development Plan that was adopted in February 2000.
Local Development Scheme
The preparation of the Local Development Framework is governed by a Local Development Scheme.
Local Development Documents
The Local Development Framework for Wirral is made up of a series of Local Development Documents including:-
- Statement of Community Involvement
- Core Strategy Development Plan Document
- Site Allocations Development Plan Document (Forthcoming)
- Joint Waste Development Plan Document
- Supplementary Planning Documents
- Annual Monitoring Reports
The Development Plan Documents will become the statutory Development Plan for Wirral
Sustainability Appraisal
A separate Sustainability Appraisal Framework has been prepared to guide the sustainability appraisals produced alongside Development Plan Documents and Supplementary Planning Documents.
Evidence Base
There is a considerable evidence base that guides the Local Development Framework. The Council consulted on its Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) and Open Space and Recreation Audit between November 2010 and January 2011. Please see the results of consultation on the SHLAA and of the Open Space and Recreation Audit.
Community Involvement
The Council consults a wide range of bodies, groups and individuals when each Local Development Document is prepared.

Current consultations
The Council will be consulting on eight draft Settlement Area Policies between 30 January and 12 March 2012. The final Settlement Area Policies will be included in a statutory land-use planning document called a Core Strategy Development Plan Document, which will be used as the basis for determining individual planning applications. Further information and a copy of the consultation documents can be viewed at http://wirral-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal. Any questions or responses should be directed to the Council's Forward Planning Team in Strategic Development, who can be contacted on 0151 691 8206 or mailto:pamconway@wirral.gov.uk. The deadline for comments to be received by the Council on-line or in writing by letter or e-mail is 5.00 pm on 12 March 2012.
The final consultation stage of the Waste Development Plan Document known as “Representations on Soundness” closed on January 20th 2012. Representations received will now be considered. More information can be found here.
