Disabled access to Council Buildings

The Council is responsible for alterations to its buildings to ensure that the public have access to buildings and facilities so far as possible. This requirement is covered under the Disability Discrimination Act.

The type of work undertaken in this area is varied. Some main areas includes

• The formation of a ramped or level access to council buildings for easy wheelchair users.
• Installing new handrails to stairs within communal open space (parks etc) where required.
• Fitting automatic doors to allow free access to buildings and other areas.
