Architects

The Building Design section within Design Consultancy Division provides a full professional service to all Client Departments within the Council for new and existing buildings. This includes advice, feasibility studies, project management, architectural design, and surveys on new build projects, extensions and refurbishments.

Various new buildings, extensions, and refurbishments have been undertaken throughout the Borough some examples are listed below:

West Kirby Girls Grammar School

The refurbishment of West Kirby Grammar school took place in three phases of development over two years. A new Technology block was built along with conversion of an existing building into a new Music and Drama facility. Mobile classrooms were replaced with a new teaching block. The whole project costing £3 million pounds over three phases.

The latest building comprises a two-storey eight-classroom block catering for 30 pupils per class age 11 to 18. The building has links at ground and first floor to the main school building. The use of a new lift, provides disabled access to the previously inaccessible areas of the existing buildings. The new building has been designed to be energy efficient to the latest standards and economic to operate and maintain.

Day-care and family support facilities for children under 5 in self-contained facilities. There are 7 centres within phase 1. Phase 2 consists of another 7 centres with a further 6 planned. These additional centres have a budget of £10.5 million.

Woodchurch High School

A new £25 million pound school is being built on the site of the existing school to assist the school to keep its consistently high standards.

Oval Swimming pool

A major refurbishment of the Oval swimming pool complex and entrance area at a cost of £2.4 million. The new building has been designed to be fully accessible; the new pool complex is fitted with a ramp and handrails allowing access to both pools, hoists and wheelchair storage, while the warmer water will assist with hydrotherapy sessions. New accessible changing rooms are fitted with specialised equipment including hoists, mechanically adjustable changing platforms and showers. The installation of a new heat and ventilation system with an incorporated heat recovery system will recover around 70% of heat that would otherwise be lost. A new intelligent lighting system has been installed providing modern environmental energy saving devices to reduce wasted energy.
