Bees

Bees are hugely beneficial to the environment and much of the food we eat depends on them pollinating crops.

They are not therefore generally considered to be a pest.

Swarms of honey bees (only honey bees swarm) are not uncommon and although they can be frightening, you should not panic.

Swarms are caused when the population of a hive increases and a proportion of the worker bees with a queen leave to form a new hive. The bees will find somewhere to cluster such as a tree branch or fences until the scout bees return with ideas for new locations. As a result the swarm may remain for several days.

Wirral Council does not provide control treatments for Bees. However, The British Beekeepers Association website has lots of information about bees, including what to do if you are stung  and how to arrange to have a swarm removed by a local Swarm Collector.
