Rubbish Fun Day 2011

Rubbish Fun Day openingWirral’s youngsters got their summer holidays off to a fun, green start as Wirral’s 1st Rubbish Fun Day took place in July at the Oval, Bebington.

Several different Council departments joined forces with representatives from other agencies to host activities based around the theme of rubbish and the environment.

The free activities ranged from drama and music workshops, facepainting, and there was also an opportunity for young people to construct cool things like bugs on sticks, and ‘faces on plates’. For the more active a football tournament, rubbish relay races, and a ‘bouncy’ running track were available.  Liverpool band ‘Urban Strawberry Lunch’

Among the attractions during the day was Liverpool band, ‘Urban Strawberry Lunch’, who use instruments made from recycled materials. They played two sets and encouraged the audience to participate using their recycled drums.

7Waves Community Radio provided music and commentary and over 1000 people took part.

Information was available on what to recycle and how along with details about growing yoRubbish fun day face paintingur own food and finding creative ways to use up any leftovers.

Funding for the event was provided by the local Area Forums’ ‘You Decide’ scheme.

All in all this was a very enjoyable event for all and it one we hope will be repeated.
