Urban Design
Urban design is the art of making places for people. Good design can help to create lively places with distinctive and attractive character. It is the process of shaping the physical environment within our cities, towns and villages through the design of buildings, groups of buildings, spaces and landscapes.
The role of the Conservation and Urban Design Team is to promote high quality design, by advising on the design aspects of development through the planning process. This involves working with developers/ architects and home owners alike from pre application to formal submission stage. Within this capacity we are able to encourage developers/ applicants to consider the fundamental components of good design including high quality well integrated public realm, provision of public art and sustainable design and construction.
To support the team’s aims and objectives we are in conjunction with the planning policy team producing policies and guidance promoting the importance of good design.
