Deputy Mayor of Wirral - Councillor Dave Mitchell
Councillor George David Mitchell was born on 23 April 1947 in Poulton Cum Lancelyn, which is now Clatterbridge Hospital, and is the seventh of eight children.
He spent his early life in Bebington and attended Town Lane Infant School and Mill Road Juniors followed by Bebington High School for Boys which was then situated on New Chester Road, New Ferry.
The family moved to Rock Ferry where Dave attended The Kirklands Secondary School, also known as Alpha Drive. After leaving school at fifteen years of age, Dave went on to work in various companies in Wirral. He attended Birkenhead Technical College and later Carlett Park College, where he learnt his trade in welding and worked across the area.
Married to Sue, they have two daughters, Avril and Hayley as well as two granddaughters named Kaleigh and Tegan. They are also expecting another grandchild in October.
Dave was elected to the Council in 1983 and has served Eastham ward since. With an interest in planning, he was Chair of the Planning Committee when the Wirral Waters development was approved, is a former cabinet member for Highways and Transportation and has also served on committees for the Mersey Port Health Authority and Merseytravel.
Dave is a foundation governor for Wirral Hospital Trust and is also a school governor at Heygarth and Raeburn Primary Schools.
The Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Sue Mitchell, is also Wirral born and bred and comes from Moreton.
Sue worked at the Daily Post and Echo until she had her first child. Later she worked at St Mary’s Village School in Eastham as a midday supervisor until the school closed in 2007.
Outside of the Council, on the rare occasions he has time to relax, Dave enjoys fishing and watching local rugby and football teams.
