Councillors

Wirral Council has 66 councillors in 22 electoral wards.

Each ward is represented by three councillors. One councillor in each ward stands for election in three out of every four years.

Adults living in each ward vote in local elections to decide who they would like to represent their interests within the council.

The overriding duty of councillors is to the whole community, including those who did not vote for them.

The Full Council meets about seven times a year to approve the constitution, set annual budgets and agree council policies.

  • the receipt of petitions
  • taking questions from members of the public through a ‘Question time’ session (subject to appropriate notice)
  • the receipt of decisions and consideration of recommendations from the Cabinet and committees
  • consideration of motions submitted by individual members

Councillors are elected to represent the views of the people in their ward, which gives voters the power to influence public spending and public services in their area.
