Purpose of the exercise:
Wirral Council and its partners – including public health agencies – are looking at ways to reduce the negative impact of excessive alcohol consumption on individuals, local communities and public services.
One option being considered is to introduce a minimum price per unit of alcohol. The Council is seeking views on the introduction of a minimum price.

Who was consulted and how:
The Council invited views from local people, businesses, partner organisations and community and voluntary groups. Licensees and community organisations in Wirral were contacted and the survey was available online. Visitors to the Council's One Stop Shops were also asked to complete the survey.
Who were the results of the exercise reported to:
The results were reported to the Council's Licensing, Health & Safety and General Purposes Committee on 21st March 2011.
What were the results of the exercise:

What changes to the service will take place as a result of the exercise:
Following the consultation it was decided that Members of the Council's Licensing, Health & Safety and General Purposes Committee would not support the proposals to seek a local by-law to enforce a minimum price for alcohol.
