Equality Impact Assessments
Equality Impact Assessments are a self-assessment tool to help Council departments and services look at the likely positive and negative impact of their work on staff, members, customers, partnerships, individuals and communities with regards to equality of opportunity and promoting diversity in employment and service delivery, and to take appropriate action.

Why do we need to do Equality Impact Assessments?
The Equality Duty 2010 places a requirement on the Council to give due regard to the impact of our policies and decisions on people with protected characteristics:
- gender
- race
- disability
- sexual orientation
- age
- religion / belief
- gender reassignment
- marriage / civil partnership
- pregnancy / maternity (workforce only)
Therefore, the Council will continue to complete Equality Impact Assessments in order to meet this requirement.
The Council departments uses the following guidance and toolkit:
Review of Equality Impact Assessments
During April and May 2011, the Council reviewed of all its published equality impact assessments. The Equality Impact Assessments were drawn together in one list and were placed under headings by each department as follows:
- policies & procedures
- budgetary decisions
- public appointments
- allocating resources
- service provision
- employment of staff
- internal audits
- communications
- procurement
- partnerships
- management of premises.
Each impact assessment was also assessed for it’s relevance to the current Equality Duty as follows:
- To eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
- To advance equality of opportunity.
- To foster good relations between groups of people.
