School security
Equipment at schools in Wirral are protected by the hi-tech property marking solution Selectamark. In addition, school computers have a tracking facility which alerts police to a location where the property is used.
Wirral Community Safety Team, working in conjunction with the Children and Young People’s Department of Wirral Council and Merseyside Police have funded ‘Selectamark’ property marking for schools in Wirral and a facility from a company which provides the ability to hunt down stolen computers.
Most schools now have their property forensically marked with Selectamark, which identifies the premises an item has come from in the event of it being stolen.
Police officers on Wirral carry special torches that recognise property marked with Selectamark, while second-hand dealers have been supplied with similar equipment to check for stolen or suspect property. In addition, Police and Trading Standards officers regularly visit car boot sales to identify property marked with Selectamark.
Merseyside Police’s Custody Suite in Wirral has UV lamps which identify people who have been sprayed with covert Selectamark spray, which is used in premises that have previously been burgled and also in the covert ‘Pantha’ vehicles, which include covert CCTV systems.
The security of all school premises is looked after by Wirral Community Patrol, who patrol 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
