Educational Social and Communication Support Service
Core Work (mainstream schools – 5-16+ age range)
- To advise and support schools staff on specific and appropriate targets and strategies for pupils with diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome or with Social and Communication Difficulties
- To liaise with professionals/parents/carers
- To monitor/review progress (Review and Individual Pupil Funding meetings)
- Support transitions, especially KS2 to KS3
- Provision of recommendations regarding future placements and support
Prioritisation of Work
- Pupils with a Statement of Special Educational Need
- Pupils with an IPFA or at School Action Plus, with at least 5 units of support
- The team may also be able to offer some input at School Action
Training
Central training is provided on particular skill development, e.g.
- Managing TAs
- Managing unstructured times
- General ASD awareness
- Delivery of Social Skills Programmes (KS1, KS2 KS3 and KS4)
School-based training around a range of areas, e.g.
- ASD awareness
- Pupil focused sessions for all staff
- Role of teaching assistant (TA)
