Special Education Support Service

The Special Education Support Service consists of a number of teams offering advice/consultation, support, training and assessment regarding pupils who have or may have SEB/LDD.  In addition, some specialist personnel work on universal and strategic issues, e.g. bullying and equality legislation policy development.

Many of the teams work across phases potentially from 0-19 whilst the remainder will direct time to specific age groups.

All activities undertaken have regard to and are underpinned by the guidance in relevant legislation.  SESS places particular emphasis upon effecting positive outcomes for children and young people through their direct involvement as well as engagement with key adults including parents/carers, teachers and non-teaching staff.

A three year SESS Plan is published outlining key developmental objectives/actions and can be requested by emailing: sess@wirral.gov.uk

Access

Access to different SESS teams should take place through completion of appropriate proforma with the exception of the Educational Psychology Service which is accessed through school and setting staff.  Parents/carers access the teams in a managed way through schools/settings.

Training

All teams offer high quality central or bespoke training.  Schools/other service users/outside agencies can apply for training from SESS staff through a standard form available from Admin on 643 7070 or e-mail: sess@wirral.gov.uk.  Central training is also advertised on iWisch.
