Governor Training

The Governor Support Service offers a range of quality training courses to help governors make their valuable contribution to our schools.

A number of courses are available throughout the Summer 2012 - Spring 2013 terms, which are outlined in the Summer 2012 - Spring 2013 training sheet. If you are interested in any of the courses please complete the 2012 - 13 Governor Training application form.

Guidance on recruiting Headteachers and senior leaders
Many schools experience difficulties in recruiting headteachers and the situation is not expected to improve in the short term.

The National College for Leadership of Schools (NCLS), in partnership with the National Governors Association (NGA), is implementing a major national initiative to address this.

Safer Recruitment – NCSL Online training
The School Staffing (England) (Consolidation) Regulations 2009, make it mandatory for every governing body to ensure that at least one member of any selection panel appointing employees to a maintained school has completed Safer Recruitment training.

Safer Recruitment training is defined a training provided by a person approved by the Secretary of State for the purpose of ensuring that those who undertake it know how to take proper account of the need to safeguard children when recruiting staff. At present, this means the Online training package produced by NCSL or the equivalent face to face training package delivered by a person who has undergone the necessary training.
