Adoption: Thinking of Adoption?

What we are looking for?

We are looking for people to adopt children who have a variety of individual needs.  This means that we are looking for people from all walks of life – from different communities, cultures and backgrounds – to provide permanent new families for children in Wirral.

You might already have children, or have no children of your own, be single, a couple that is unmarried, married or in a civil partnership, a homeowner or living in rented accommodation – there is someone for everyone. What matters is the quality of care you can provide for a child who is waiting for a new family.

Who can adopt?

People from all racial, cultural and religious backgrounds are needed so that we can achieve the best possible match between the background of the child and the background of the adoptive parent(s).

You might be single, a couple that is married or in a civil partnership, or unmarried (including a same sex couple).  You could be a homeowner or living in rented accommodation, unemployed or working.

We do not discriminate on the basis of age, disability or sexual orientation.

We are looking for people who best meet the needs of individual children and can provide a stable, secure loving family.

You do have to:

  • be over 21 (or over 18 if you are married to the birth parent of the child you wish to adopt)
  • be happy to make space in your life and home
  • be patient, flexible and energetic
  • enjoy a child’s achievements however small
  • feel rewarded and fulfilled – despite the ups and down of being a parent
  • be willing to maintain some form of contact with the child’s birth family, for example grandparents, brothers and sisters
  • accept the importance of the adopted child’s history and the extra challenges this may bring
  • be determined to make a real difference to a child's life, for a lifetime

If you think this is you continue to How do I adopt?
