Children's Services Introduction
In April 2006 Wirral Council created a Children and Young People’s Department. The Acting Director of Children's Services is David Armstrong.
Children’ Services are responsible for a wide range of services for children, young people, their families and schools in Wirral including education for all ages, children’s social care, youth provision, early years, children’s centres, the youth offending service, special educational needs and children with disabilities.
There are currently 74, 000 children and young people living in Wirral. We organise our work around children and young people; what they say, where they are and what they need. We focus on improving outcomes for them and their families by ensuring they receive swift and timely access to the services they need.
Our vision for children and young people as reflected in our Children and Young Peoples’ Plan is:
“To enable Wirral’s children, young people and families to access services quickly in order to be secure, healthy, have fun and achieve their full potential”.
The Department has forged close links with other organisations which provide services to children and young people, including health services, the police, Jobcentreplus, Merseyside Fire and Rescue, the probation service, schools and colleges and the community, voluntary and faith sector. Together all partners form Wirral Children’s Trust, a strategic partnership of the organisations which provide services for children and young people.
