Tobacco vending machines

From 1st October 2011, the law will change to make it illegal to sell tobacco products directly to the public from vending machines in England. This will affect all premises who currently have a tobacco vending machine on their premises.

Guidance has been written by the Local Government Regulatory Support Unit and the Department of Health to explain the requirements of the new law.

The aim is to help both the owners and managers of premises where tobacco vending machines are located, and the regulatory officers who will enforce the law. The guidance also offers some practical advice about machines.

It is Trading Standards' responsibility to ensure that this new law is being complied with. If, after reading the guidance document you are still unsure how to comply with the regulations, or you need further information please contact Trading Standards by e-mail. tradingstandards@wirral.gov.uk or telephone 0151 691 8020.
