The Sunday Trading Act 1994 places a general restriction on the opening of large shops on Sundays.
The hours of opening are restricted to a six hour continuous period between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm.
Loading and/or unloading from such stores on a Sunday is prohibited before 9 am, unless specific consent is given by the Local Authority.
A public register is held by the Local Authority giving details of the name and address of such shops and the permitted hours of opening.
There are exceptions to the Act and further details can be obtained by calling the Environmental Health Team.
