Private hire vehicle licensing

Any vehicle used as a private hire vehicle, must first be licensed by us as is required by law.

All vehicles must pass a compliance test at one of our appointed testing stations.

Their details are given on the application form.

How to apply for a new licence

Once you have all the necessary documentation you can make an appointment with the Licensing Section. You can do this by calling the Licensing Section on 0151 691 8043 or by visiting any Council One Stop Shop.

Please provide the following:

• The vehicle registration document (V5c) (or bill of sale for recently purchased vehicles);
• Your completed application form, or if you wish we can assist you with your application
• Vehicle Test Pass Certificate
• Current valid cover note or certificate of insurance, indicating the vehicle is insured for private hire use
• Your licence fee
