Wirral Waterfront

The Wirral Waterfront programme started in November 2000 and played a key role in improving the competitiveness of Wirral’s employment corridor which stretches along the Mersey coastline from New Brighton in the north to Eastham in the south.

The Wirral Waterfront initiative began with the successful application for a governmental Single Regeneration Budget which was enhanced by an additional £125m of funding during the lifetime of the initiative. This figure includes £20m of European funding secured as part of Wirral Waterfront’s designation as a Strategic Investment Area; one of only seven on Merseyside.  The fact that Wirral Waterfront is a Strategic Investment Area demonstrates that the area is recognised as a main area of economic opportunity for Wirral by the Government.

Projects that have benefitted from Wirral Waterfront include Spaceport, The Lauries Centre, Woodside Business Park and the key strategic site; Wirral International Business Park.

This far-reaching programme of improvements concluded at the end of March 2008 with a platform for continued regeneration of the area through projects such as Wirral Waters and Woodside, in place.
