Adult Social Services

Giving information about the different types of care available

  • Providing information to carers about their rights and what help is available to them
  • Information about aids, adaptations and telecare to help people remain at home safely and independently
  • Information about luncheon clubs
  • Linking to the Care Quality Commission website and giving details of residential homes
  • Access to inspection reports on care homes.

 

Anti-social Behaviour

  • Offering support to customers who are suffering from neighbour nuisance or anti-social behaviour
  • Providing self help guidance or leaflets
  • Recording the details and completing an initial complaint record for any Wirral Partnership Home tenants.

 

Blue Badge scheme

The Blue Badge scheme enables people with mobility issues to use disabled parking facilities. Our staff can:

  • Explain the criteria for getting a blue badge
  • Help customers complete the form
  • Deal with follow up queries
  • Book an appointment for a mobility assessment
  • Advise customers about how to appeal against a decision made.

Blue Badges cannot be issued at Bromborough, Hoylake and Upton One Stop Shops.


Council Tax

  • Explaining how a bill has been worked out
  • Seeing if the customer is eligible for any discounts to help reduce the bill
  • Advice on what to do if a reminder or summons for non payment is received
  • Advice on eligibility for the fair debt scheme
  • Taking debit or credit card payments for your Council Tax.

 

Consumer advice

  • Giving first stage consumer advice to customers
  • Consumer support packs
  • Helping customers complete letters to traders rejecting goods etc
  • Advice given on next steps for consumer problems
  • Providing details of businesses who has joined the Wirral Fair Traders scheme.

 

Council meetings, agendas, councillor and MP queries

  • Dealing with customer queries about minutes of meetings, dates, times or agendas of meetings
  • Advising of when and where the Councillors and MPs hold their surgeries
  • Providing contact details of Councillors and MPs.

 

Education and welfare benefits

Advising customers who qualify that their children would be eligible to receive free school meals and milk.

 

Electoral register  

  • Helping customers who are advising that a household member has turned 18
  • Dealing with queries for confirmation of entry on the register, produce confirmation letter
  • Provide voter registration form to customers who have moved home.

Family Information Service 

  • Access to the Family Information Service to provide information on how to become a childcare provider
  • Information on early years education for 3 and 4 year olds
  • Provide a list of Childminders / Day Nurseries / Holiday Clubs / Out of School Clubs & Pre School & Playgroups within Wirral 

 

Fire service

Making referrals to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for Home Fire Safety Checks 

 

Housing Options service

  • Acting as the initial contact point for customers presenting themselves as homeless
  • Giving first stage advice on what constitutes homelessness
  • Liaising with the homeless section to arrange an appointment
  • Liaising with the homeless families unit
  • Liaising with the tenancy support team to try and prevent customers becoming homeless.

 

Home improvements

  • Giving advice and raising service requests for disabled adaptations
  • Promote energy efficiency grants such as Warm Front
  • Contacting the Handyperson service for residents living in Wirral who are eligible
  • Give advice on what help they can get from the home improvement agency
  • Make referrals to the POPIN (Promoting Older People's Independence Network) service where appropriate.

 

Housing and Council Tax Benefit

  • Advice on eligibility for benefit
  • Help in filling out forms
  • Explaining how benefit has been worked out
  • Taking, receipting and scanning proofs when information is required.
  • Dealing with changes of address.

 

Housing for rent (Wirralhomes scheme)
  • Registering customers onto the Wirralhomes database
  • Establishing if there are any particular circumstances in relation to their application for example homelessness, urgent need status being applied
  • Help for customers when making expressions of interest on properties advertised
  • Changing customer details on the database.

 

Job applications

  • Printing off Council job application details
  • Receiving returned job applications
  • Issuing receipts for job applications.

 

Job Points

The Department of Work and Pensions Job Points at the Birkenhead and Rock Ferry One Stop Shops allow customers to search for local and national jobs. 


Leisure Services

  • Providing information on the Wirral Passport and the Invigor8 scheme including eligibility criteria and fees
  • Receiving application documents for the Wirral Passport Scheme.

 

Licensing

  • Providing help with new and renewal applications for hackney and private hire cabs
  • New / renewal vehicle applications
  • Temporary events notices
  • Street / house collection licenses
  • Premises licences.

 

NHS Services

  • Providing brief advice on health and well being to customers
  • Giving brief advice on smoking cessation and healthy lifestyles
  • Referring customers to NHS stop smoking services and to Health Trainers and the activities taking place in the Community Programme.

 

Parking fines and appeals

  • Taking payments for parking fines issued
  • Explaining the process and helping customers appeal against the fine.

 

Payments

Every One Stop Shop accepts debit and credit card payments but cash payments can only be processed at the Birkenhead branch. 

 

Pest Control / Environmental Health

  • Providing information about the charges for dealing with the different types of pest such as rats, mice, wasps nests and bugs
  • Making service requests for pest control
  • Acting as a reception point at Seacombe for members of the public dropping off specimens of pests or suspect items of food.

 

Recycling, Rubbish and Waste

  • Information on gardening, household waste and recycling
  • Raising service requests for street cleansing
  • Help with missed bin collections
  • Provide advice on the assisted collection service for householders who are unable to take their bin to the curbside because of age, ill health or disability
  • Provide information on how to arrange collection of bulky items i.e. furniture or white goods.

 

Registrar Services
  • Explaining who can and what you need to do to register a birth or a death
  • Explaining what information needs to be taken when attending the appointment
  • Helping the customer contact the registrar if there is any coroner involvement
  • Advising of any costs involved with the registrar service
  • Helping to obtain copy birth and death certificates.

 

Tourism

  • Information on tourist attractions in Wirral including beaches, country parks, theatres, museums and restaurants
  • Providing information from the VisitWirral.com website
  • Information on ongoing tourism campaigns.

  • Checking rent accounts
  • Liaising with Wirral Partnership Homes income teams
  • Assist with repairs that need to be reported
  • Dealing with queries about neighbour nuisance issues
