Local Government Ombudsman

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the Council's complaint investigation you can take your complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman.

The Local Government Ombudsman looks at complaints about councils and some other authorities, including education admissions appeal panels. It is a free service and their job is to investigate complaints in a fair and independent way.

In most cases, the council must have a chance to sort out the complaint, which usually means completing all of the Council’s three complaint stages, before the Ombudsman will look at your complaint.

You can contact the Local Government Ombudsman’s Advice Team in the following ways:

  • By telephone on 0300 061 0614
  • By post at: PO Box 4771, Coventry, CV4 0EH
  • By text on 0762 480 4299 (please text ‘call back’)
  • By fax on 024 7682 0001

You can also email general enquiries to the Local Government Ombudsman.

Please remember to include a daytime telephone number so that they can contact you to discuss your complaint.

Information in alternative languages and formats, including interpretation, large print, Braille and tape is available from the Ombudsman.
