Local Housing Allowance Rates
The Rent Service has provided Wirral Council with the following Local Housing Allowance rates, which are effective from 1 April 2012 and will not change for 12 months.
These rates will be used for calculating all new claims made on or after 1 April 2012 and for those tenants who have a break in their Housing Benefit claim of one week or more after 1 April 2012.
| Number of bedrooms |
Shared accommodation rate (including single under 35's) |
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Weekly LHA rate (£) | 63.50 | 86.54 | 103.85 | 126.92 | 138.46 |
| Monthly LHA rate (£) | 275.00 | 375.00 | 450.00 | 550.00 | 600.00 |
The rates shown above relate to the number of bedrooms required by the household (for example, if a household needs 3 bedrooms their Housing Benefit will be based on the 3 bedroom rate regardless of how many bedrooms the property actually has). The maximum bedroom allowance for Local housing Allowance is 4 bedrooms, even if you need 5 bedrooms or more.
Bedroom allocation is as follows:
One bedroom each for:
- every adult couple
- any other adult aged 16 or over
- any 2 children of the same sex
- any 2 children regardless of sex under age 10
- any other child (Foster children are not counted)
- non resident carer
