Alleygating

Alleygates help in tackling domestic burglary, other crime and anti-social behaviour, such as drug-related crime, fly tipping and dog fouling.

There is currently no further funding available for alleygate schemes. Any new initiatives have to be funded by residents or businesses.

Alleygate keys

In order to maintain low crime levels, it is important to restrict the number of keys in circulation to one key per household.

To request a replacement alleygate key, contact 0151 606 5443 and quote the number of the gate on the plaque fitted on the alleygate. Price will be quoted on request. Or you can order alley gate keys online

If you have moved into a property and the previous occupier hasn't provided an alleygate key, you will need to pay for a new one. Alleygate keys are free of charge for new properties developed on an alleygated alley.

Alleygate repairs

Wirral Council continues to fund repairs to and maintenance of alleygates to ensure the safety and security of your property. Therefore please report any damage or repair required to alleygates by:

  • noting the number of the gate on the plaque fitted alongside the alleygate
  • contacting the telephone number on the plaque, 0151 606 5443, stating the nature of repair needed, along with your name and contact details
