Gambling licence

Under the Gambling Act 2005, there are three key licensing objectives:

  • keeping gambling crime-free
  • making sure that gambling is fair and open
  • protecting children and vulnerable adults

Decisions regarding application will be made in accordance with the licensing objectives.

Gambling operators must obtain an operating licence and any relevant personal licences from the Gambling Commission before applying to the council for a gambling premises licence.

The Statement of policy sets out the principles that the council will generally apply to promote the licensing objectives when making decisions on applications under The Gambling Act 2005.

Temporary use notices and provisional statements can be issued. Provisional statements can be issued before a building is built or altered for the purpose of gambling.
