Renewal ceremonies are for couples who have been married or in a civil partnership for any length of time and wish to celebrate their union in a personal ceremony.
The ceremonies have no legal status and are purely ceremonial.
Arranging a renewal ceremony
- Call the Register Office on 0151 606 2020 to book a date.
- You should allow around four weeks to book and arrange the ceremony
- Please note renewal ceremonies are no longer performed at Wallasey and Birkenhead Town Halls.
Who can arrange a ceremony?
The couple together or one partner can arrange the ceremony as a surprise, as it is not a legal ceremony
What does the ceremony involve?
Renewal ceremonies are personal to the couple. The ceremony can be used to renew vows and commitment, re-dedicate rings or give new rings. It can also include your children and readings or speeches.
The ceremony usually lasts around 15 to 30 minutes and is conducted by a professional celebrant from Wirral Register Office.
