Wirral Register Office holds records of births, deaths and marriages that occurred in Wirral.

Searches of birth indexes

The Register Office does not have the resources to undertake long searches. Searches covering a period of 5 years can be made, provided accurate details of the birth registration have been given.

If a wider search is required, the applicant will need to make a general search in the indexes.

General searches of the indexes

A general search of the indexes must take place in a single session and last no more than six hours.

A general search gives access to the indexes of the registers of births, deaths and marriages, but not to the registers themselves.

For information on fees and to make an appointment to undertake a general search, call 0151 606 2020.

A certificate of any entry identified can be obtained by completing an application form. A charge is made for a copy of each certificate you want.

If you are uncertain if a reference found in the indexes relates to the entry you are searching for, the Superintendent Registrar, on being given definite details by which the entry may be identified, will verify those particulars after referring to the register.
