Consultation on future of Primary education

Wirral Council has launched a consultation to help prepare a primary school strategy for the next 14 years to improve accommodation and inspire and stimulate learning for all pupils in our primary schools.

In 2007 the Government launched the Primary Capital Programme and announced that £1.9 billion would be available nationally to improve primary school buildings and make them suitable for a 21st Century curriculum as well as putting schools at the heart of the community, by developing a whole range of services that families can access through schools. There is a particular focus on rebuilding or substantially renovating schools, particularly in more deprived urban areas as well as addressing surplus places and standards.

To be eligible for this funding, Wirral Council has to submit a "Strategy for Change" document to the Government in June which must have broad support from schools, diocesan authorities and other stakeholders. This is the latest step in the Wirral Primary Places Review which has been underway since 2004.
