Welcome To Wirral

Cycle Training

A new National Standard for Cyclist Training has been recently introduced in the UK which aims to raise rider education to a level whereby all pupils receive more comprehensive tuition which will include on-road training.

The National Standard has three levels as follows:-

Level 1

Basic off-road machine control

Level 2

On-road instruction on quieter roads (replaces old Cycling Proficiency scheme and is suitable for pupils from 9 to approximately 12 years of age)

Level 3

For teenages and adults and involves more complex skills such as coping with busier roads, dealing with features such as roundabouts and route planning

In Wirral, the new National Standard will eventually replace the older, basic form of cyclist training. Currently there is no charge for this service and is available for children from 9 years upwards and is specifically designed to be suitable for cyclists of all ages.
