Welcome To Wirral

Parking enforcement

To encourage all drivers to park safely and sensibly the council employs a Parking Enforcement Contractor to patrol Wirral’s streets and car park.

Enforcement should not affect motorists who park wisely and sensibly in accordance with the regulations in force. But motorists who park on yellow lines or without buying a parking ticket risk receiving a penalty charge notice.

There are now two levels of penalty charge, £50 and £70. The lower level applies to less serious contraventions for example overstaying in a limited waiting bay, the higher level applies to more serious contraventions such as parking on yellow lines.

In some instances before issuing a penalty charge notice a civil enforcement officer must allow an Observation Period, this can vary from nil to 15 minutes depending upon the contravention.

Enforcement is undertaken in accordance with Council approved Parking Policy. The policy explains why and how we enforce parking and includes the penalty charge level and observation period for each contravention. The Parking Policy can be viewed in detail by following the link on this page

If you have received a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) which you believe has been issued unfairly, you can lodge an appeal. More information about parking appeals and how to lodge one is available by following the Parking appeal link on this page.

Further information on parking appeals and parking enforcement in general is available in the Parking Enforcement Frequently Asked Questions section.
