The service acts as a link between Health, Social Services and all Criminal Justice Agencies in their work with Adult Mentally Disordered Offenders. The team aims to provide a high quality service towards persons who have severe and enduring mental health needs and who find themselves involved at any stage in the Criminal Justice system.
The team provides rapid assessments into police and other custodial environments for persons who have, or are suspected of having, a serious mental health need. We provide an assessment and liaison service at all stages of the Forensic and Criminal Justice process. We work closely with, and accept referrals from police, forensic medical examiners, forensic psychiatric services, court cell security staff, probation, solicitors, court personnel, prison staff, in-patient and community mental health services. The team provides ECC and ongoing mental health input to Wirral residents located within prisons regardless of location.
The team encourages multi-disciplinary work in order to provide holistic care assessments, incorporating risk, psychiatric, social, psychological and forensic importance. Our work encompasses consultation, advice, information and discussion about issues relating to mentally disordered offenders. We also provide specialist education sessions and teaching packages in order to raise awareness within the criminal justice and mental health professions, and to assist in the facilitation of appropriate care and supervision of mentally disordered offenders within the community and custodial environments.
