Welcome To Wirral
The Department of Adult Social Services charging policy
The Government says that Wirral Department of Adult Social Services must charge for the services that it provides. The government also says that charges must be fair and take into account both people’s income and the costs of daily living. This means that people who use services have a financial assessment which does this.
People can refuse a financial assessment if they wish and pay a standard charge for the services they use.
No charges are made for services provided under s117 Mental Health Act 1983.
The aims of the charging policy are to ensure that:
- Wirral Department of Adult Social Services maintains a reasonable level of income to fund services;
- People who use our services who are in receipt of care services contribute to the cost of their services subject to a financial assessment;
- People who use our services receive a benefits check as part of their financial assessment to ensure that they have access to their full benefits and entitlements.
Wirral Department of Adult Social Services have written two guides on service charges:
- Moving into a care home - a guide to financial arrangements
- Charging for homecare and other adult non-residential services
