Aiming High for Disabled Children
Transforming services for children & young people in Wirral
Aiming High for Disabled Children and their families is a three year national programme launched by the government earlier this year, following a review of services in 2007. The programme is designed to transform services for disabled children and their families.
The Government set out a Core Offer – which are a set of standards which services will be expected to meet by April 2011.
These require us to:
- improve information available to families of children with disabilities and learning difficulties;
- address issues of eligibility and assessment for services;
- ensure the views of parents of children with disabilities and the children and young people themselves are listened and responded to;
The Government have allocated funding to radically transform short breaks services for disabled children, the Council is presently drawing up plans which it is required to submit by January 2009. There is a commitment to ensure parents and young people are involved in the process of developing services.
