Hearing Impairment

There are many different types of support available for deaf and hard of hearing people.

Hearing impairment is when your hearing is affected by a disease, disorder or injury.

There is a range of equipment aimed at improving ease of communication, including text phones (often referred to by the brand names of Minicom and Talktype) and hearing aids. There are various interpreting services available and assistance can also be provided by support dogs.

A social work and equipment service is provided on behalf of Wirral Council by Merseyside Society for Deaf People, who also support social activities and a number of groups for deaf and hard of hearing people (http://www.msdp.org.uk/).

For Information & Advice contact the Central Advice and Duty Team Telephone 0151 606 2006.

The team are able to provide general information and advice and where appropriate take referrals for Adult Social Services for detailed enquires and requests for a service.
